Museum for Contraception and Abortion
Who does still know how anxiety-laden contraception was before the development of the pill? Who remembers the struggle to legalize abortion within the first three months? Who is aware of which methods are natural and which ones safe?
The Museum for Contraception and Abortion intends to document this chapter of the history of gynecology and obstetrics as long as artifacts such as instruments and auxiliary tools, models, illustrations, accounts, posters and pamphlets testifying to it and knowledge about it continue to exist.

There are also interviews with doctors and pharmacists, with scientists, herbalists, midwives, back-street abortionists as well as with men and women able to contribute their own experience. The unbelievable number and variety of sometimes ineffective and painful methods employed in the past illustrate the despair as well as the imagination with which people have at all times attempted to control fertility. Since earliest times women have tried interrupted unintended pregnancies.
In the past, relatively ineffective and often dangerous methods were commonly employed. The consequences were quite often serious and sometimes fatal. The great variety of methods and substances employed is a depressing testimony to the despair of the women involved.
