Plakatwurst (poster sausage)

Aktionsradius Augarten Event: "Heute ist uns alles Wurst” (Today we don’t care about anything) The theme of this evening is the sausage, a food with a favorable record going back as far as Homer’s "Odyssey". The fact that today there are about 1500 kinds of sausages in the shops proves that this culinary treat has since spread throughout the world in quite a spectacular fashion. The Viennese saying "Mia is olas wuarschd" (I don’t care about anything) often ranges in meaning all the way from lack of interest via indifference to resignation. In our case the expression stands for calmness as a way of managing everyday life situations, e.g., in the sense of getting out of the hectic rush when the moment of truth has come: "Jetzt geht’s um die Wurst!”

Rudi Hübl Volxkunst

The collection of the papier-mâché sausages of the Volxkünstler (Folkartist) Rudolf Hübl is accompanied by a Live-Verwurstungsperformance (live-sausage-stuffing performance) by the actionism of the "Wursthaberer” (sausage guys).Rudi Hübl’s material consists exclusively of posters of festivals, exhibitions or concerts which refer to major figures of the national culture, suitable blockbuster figures like Schiele, Mozart or Klimt. On close inspection the sausage skins reveal the original posters or the persons referred to. The stuffing of this kind of posters is also intended as an intervention of the "Wildplakatierer" (fly-poster artist) Rudolf Hübl against the "war" of mega-event organizers against small cultural projects and organizations. Presenter and conférencier is none other than Kurt Palm, who contributes everything worth knowing about the topic in a brilliantly witty manner.
