Rhiz

The rhiz is the most “electronic” of the bars and pubs along the Vienna Gürtel. Here, you will find rather experimental music, and also the regularly held poetry-slam is very popular.

At other times, there is also music you can dance to, but not really the “Kaffeehaus-Grooves”.

The hosts strive for originality; the events have titles such as “please stay at home” or are inventive word-plays. Noblesse oblige, after all, poets like fritz ostermayer play their vinyl on the turntables here. Once a month, the Commandyoursoul DJs pay homage to house music.

This is how rhiz defines itself: “a junction in-between the structure of society and in particular in-between the net of all kinds of the so called new media which is permanently growing, condensing and shifting. (…) new ideas can be transported/transformed faster and can reach a bigger and as well fairly distributed audience. concerts of austrian and international musicians, platform for new projects and experiments in electronic music.”
The rhiz was opened in 1998 as one of the first “new” pubs along the Gürtel; today it is a pleasant place to hang out for scenesters, readers of the pop-culture magazine Spex, and pop theorists. The event “textstrom” is very popular among the poetry-slam community with Mieze Medusa and Diana Köhle and takes place (almost) every last Wednesday of the month.

This is basically a meeting place for people who find the “bar modern” of the rhiz beneath the arches of the U6 underground railway laid-back. While you can read or surf the Internet here in the afternoon, in the evening it gets quite crowded.
