Ticket machines
These days almost everything functions digitally and we are wont to communicate with machines. However, they do have their pitfalls. Not only tourists get into trouble, sometimes Viennese, too, stand clueless before them. Now, however, there are ultimate instructions in place and there is no longer any excuse when caught without a ticket. Effective immediately, the ticket machines in all Viennese underground stations dispense not only subway, streetcar and bus tickets but also parking permits for short-term parking zones.
“Wiener Linien” (Vienna city lines), which are all equipped with the user-friendly touch-screen technology, have added a function to their 335 ticket machines in underground stations. Effective immediately, they dispense parking tickets for short-term ― from 30 minutes to two hours ― parking as well. Since, effective immediately, the subway never closes, parking tickets may also be purchased on weekends, late at night or early in the morning. The machines accept all common electronic means of payment in addition to cash, i.e., bills and coins.
